Academic Outputs

Information on managing your academic outputs (i.e. papers, posters and presentations).

UKRI Open Access requirements

UKRI announced a revised open access policy to apply to research articles submitted for publication from 1 April 2022.

All original, peer-reviewed research articles, including reviews and conference papers, that are accepted for final publication in either a journal, conference proceeding with an International Standards Serial Number (ISSN) that are supported by UKRI must be published immediately open access under a Creative Commons attribution licence (CC BY). Journal embargoes are no longer permitted.

Authors must include the following statement on all submissions of original research to peer-reviewed journals:

This work was supported by the United Kingdom Research and Innovation (grant EP/S02431X/1), UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in Biomedical AI at the University of Edinburgh, School of Informatics. For the purpose of open access, the author has applied a creative commons attribution (CC BY) licence to any author accepted manuscript version arising.

All articles should include a data access statement in the article. The statement can include links to the dataset, where applicable and appropriate.

How to make your article open access

If you have published in a traditional subscription journal, with a paid open access option, the University will not pay the publication charges. Instead you must deposit the paper in the University’s publication repository PURE, using this webform. You should deposit papers that you have co-authored, as well as those on which you were the primary author, unless you are certain that the primary author has already done so.

If you have published in a fully open access journal under a CC-BY licence you can request for the University to cover associated article processing charges from the UKRI block grant. Before placing an order for paid open access with the publisher please ensure that you have confirmation that funding is available, otherwise you will be liable for costs and will have to find an alternative source of funding.

As a part of these reporting obligations, all CDT students are required to share information about their academic outputs and achievements. The main categories of academic outputs are published papers, presentations and posters.
