Topics in Natural Language Processing (TNLP)
Response to 2014/15 survey feedback.
The course is running in 2015/16.
Thank you for all the students who have given feedback about the class. I enjoyed giving this class. Since this was the first year the class was given, this feedback is especially important. The goal of the class, as some of the responders have identified, is to prepare students to do cutting-edge NLP research and development, mostly through self-study, readings of research papers, as well as lectures given by the lecturer.
The main concern I saw coming from students throughout the semester was in regards to the use of slides with a pen, and the handwriting being unclear. To improve on that, next semester I will include online slides with actual latex typeset material, and only use the pen during the class. It is also important to note that all students have been getting handouts in the beginning of most lectures, summarising the material learned in the class. These handouts are not available online.
