Title:  NASA Robotics for Lunar Missions      

Abstract:  Dr. Kimberly Hambuchen will present robotic needs for future NASA lunar missions. She will discuss robotics for both in-space and on-surface mission needs, and how these robotic applications can also be applied to Mars mission scenarios. As space exploration moves further into deep space, robotic systems are needed that have increased autonomy requiring less direct human input. Additionally, the deep space environment, particularly the lunar surface, presents challenges for the physical manifestations of these systems.  Dr. Hambuchen will discuss the relevant technology development areas needed to advance robotic systems to assist in getting “Boots on the Moon” by 2024, lunar surface sustainability by 2028, and eventually landing humans on Mars.
