Title: Insect AI

Abstract: This talk will reflect on some of the more general lessons for AI that might be learnt from considering the insect brain. We have unravelled some of the brain circuits in insects that underly relatively complex behaviours such as navigation and learning. These evolved on an independent path from the vertebrate brain, so it is interesting to consider where the solutions appear convergent (suggesting strong constraints for AI approaches) or divergent (suggesting alternative AI approaches).
