Austin Tate visits colleagues in America
Austin travelled to IHMC and UCF in February 2018
Austin visited the Institute of Human Machine Cognition (IHMC) in Pensacola, Florida where he is a Senior Visiting Scientist. Austin has been engaged in a number of collaborative projects with IHMC and spoken with colleagues there about joint work and forthcoming conference for the Knowledge Systems for Coalition Operations (KSCO) community.
He visited the IHMC robotics lab. IHMC have a Boston Dynamics Atlas as used in their entry to the DARPA Robotics Challenge, a NASA Valkyrie like that in our Edinburgh Robotics Centre and are working on a new more flexible humanoid biped robot (seem to the left of this image). The new robot is being prototyped using 3D printed parts to establish the range of motion of the joints and to work out routings for piples and cables.
Austin also travelled to Orlando to meet with colleagues he works with on virtual worlds and simulation-based trining at the US Army Research Lab's Simulation and Training Technology Center and the Institute for Simulation and Training at the University of Central Florida.
