5. Course Proposal Change – Machine Translation - A. Lopez

The proposal to change back changes implemented last year, where exam requirements were dropped and course changed to 20 credits due to the huge increase in students taking the current course. Remove 20 credit course and return to 10 credit course.

Outcome: Approved

Action: 10 credit course to be put through and 20 credit course deleted for 2017/18.

This is to update the course content as it’s a little old. Recommended change working hours and assessment change from CW70%/Exam 30% to CW60%/Exam 40%. This would have 2x course work 10% each plus group course work 20%. Need course work breakdown.

Outcome: Approved

9. Revised Course Proposal  – The Internet of Things - P. Patras and B. Franke and DK Arvind.

There are two courses being proposed for the Internet of Things – One would be looking to replace Embedded Systems (INFR11120) [Process of Internet of Things – Paul Patras] and the other would be looking to replace System Level Integration Practical (INFR10042) [Design and Analysis of Internet of Things – D K Arvind]. These courses would run back to back and would not be pre-requisites as the courses are independent of each other. The content of the courses would be complimentary. It was noted that some information was missing from the proposals such as sample questions.

Outcome: Recommended that the credits and assessments be revised. It was recommended that the course titles be revised.

Action: CO’s to revise proposals and resubmit at next Board of Studies.

13. Course Proposal (re-submitted)– Robot Learning and Sensorimotor Control – M. Mistry & S. Vijayakumar.

Topics need more indepth oral presentation. Core basics taught in RSS so this can be dropped. Groups of 3ppl over 2x days is feasible but only if the student intake is around 50. 100 would struggle. Board recommended CO's revise credits (create 20 credit course) and assessments and submit to ITO for progression.
