Description
You are invited to participate in a research study on the meaning of so called "verb-particle constructions" in English ("verb-particle constructions" are contained in sentences like "Peter put the picture up"). In the experiment, you will be presented with sets of sentences and asked to answer questions about them. The purpose of this research is to determine the meaning of those verb-particle constructions. We will not "test" your knowledge of a prescriptive grammar, good "style" or school knowledge about written language. Instead, we are interested in your personal judgment/opinion.
Risks and benefits
Because the sentences used in the study have been extracted automatically from a collection of naturally occurring text, they may contain language that some participants may find offensive. Similarly they may contain descriptions of situations of a violent or sexual nature that some participants might find distressing. Beyond pleasure derived by way of participating in a language experiment, there are no benefits to participation.
Time involvement
Your participation in this experiment will take approximately 20 minutes.

You have the right to refuse to answer particular questions. Your individual privacy will be maintained in all published and written data resulting from the study.
