DeepMind AI Scholarships

The School of Informatics and DeepMind have formed a partnership supporting students in their studies on MScs in Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The scholarships cover the cost of tuition fees and £16K towards maintenance and other living costs. The scholarship will be paid directly in two instalments to the recipient following successful enrolment in September.  There are up to 3 MSc scholarships available including one for international applicants.

Recipients will also benefit from mentoring from DeepMind staff during their period of study.  The scholarship places no obligation on the recipient other than to undertake the MSc in Artificial Intelligence in the School of Informatics at The University of Edinburgh and to meet with their mentor. 

The criteria for non-international fee status applicants is listed below.

  • are ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom ;
  • identify as women including cis and trans people and non-binary or gender fluid people who identify in a significant way as women or female;
  • and/or identify as Black or other minority ethnicity
  • would not be able to take up the offer of admission without financial assistance;
  • are studying, or have accepted an offer to study, for an MSc in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Edinburgh in the academic years of 2022-2023.

  • is resident of country and/or region underrepresented in AI*;
  • identify as women including cis and trans people and non-binary or gender fluid people who identify in a significant way as women or female;
  • and/or identify as ‘Black’ or other minority ethnicity;
  • would not be able to take up the offer of admission without financial assistance;
  • are studying, or have accepted an offer to study, for an MSc in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Edinburgh in the academic years of 2022-2023

*This can be identified via reviewing the Global AI Talent Report 2020 by following the link below. It outlines the top ten countries including USA, India and China. Students from these countries are not eligible for this fund.

Global AI Talent Report 2020

We invite applications from all eligible applicants to our MSc in Artificial Intelligence programme. Deadline for applications is 31st March 2022.

Applications will be screened as they arrive and the candidates will be placed on a waiting list. The final decision will be made by the School once the candidates have received an offer, the admission decision is not linked to the applicant’s scholarship eligibility. Depending on the volume of applications, the selection panel may seek further information from candidates to aid their selection.
