Relocation of teaching due to reinforiced autoclaved aereated concrete

This page includes information about relocation of some teaching activities in September 2023

16 September 2023

Some of our courses are affected by the closure of Appleton Tower LT4 and 5 due to Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC). The affected courses are listed below, with either details of the activities in Week 1, or a link for up-to-date details:
  • Machine Learning Practical

    • Tuesday Week 1 Lecture in Edinburgh International Conference Centre, Pentland room
    • Week 2 onwards - announcements only for students enrolled on the course

Some of the changes involve lectures being held at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC), which is about a 20-minute walk from the central area. We are trying to find closer alternatives, but it will not be possible in all cases. Information provided by Timetabling Unit about how to get to EICC is below.

If you are enrolled one of these courses, the course organiser will be sending updates; if not, please check on the web pages above or return to this page for updates.

It’s important to stress that the vast majority of the University Estate is unaffected and continues to operate as normal. However, to ensure that proper assessments can take place in affected buildings, we’re relocating some teaching to the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC).

EICC

The EICC is a modern, accessible conference venue to the west of Edinburgh’s city centre at The Exchange, 150 Morrison Street, EH3 8EE. Please enter via the Strathblane entrance when you arrive there, (not Lennox Suite). There will be a University representative on-site from 18 to 20 September to help and answer any questions.

There will be live screens and signage outside all the doors to guide you.

Getting there

The EICC has good transport links and is around a 20-minute walk from the University’s central campus and just 8 minutes from Haymarket train station and tram stop.
