Requesting Institute Funds
A useful guide for requesting Institute travel funds
| Institute | Process |
|---|---|
| AIAI |
Intitial requests for institute funds should be sent to the institute Director who will liaise with the Portfolio Manager. The AIAI Director is now Paul Jackson. Please ensure to send him an estimate of the expected costs including conference registration. Once your funds have been agreed, you can then get in touch with Institutes Admin about making travel arrangements. |
| LFCS |
The requestor (not the supervisor or manager) should email Julian Bradfield *in good time*, meaning usually at least a month for conference travel. The request should state the purpose, and give estimated costs. This means a researched estimate, not a random guess. LFCS usually funds only attendance to present a paper, or for students to attend summer/winter schools. Occasionally, and if funds permit, we may fund conference attendance without a paper, if an argument is made for the benefit of doing so. We do not fund more than one author per paper. We do not normally fund more than one trip per year, but all requests are considered in the light of available budget. It is always expected that other sources of funds have been investigated and found lacking before asking for LFCS funds, and a statement to this effect should be included in the application. |
| ICSA | If there are no alternative funds available to cover the cost i.e. your supervisor's grants, then please complete this form: |
| IPAB |
Please complete the following form after you have checked with your supervisor whether they have any alternative funds available to cover the requested travel. IPAB funding is reserved for those who do not have access to such funds. Completed forms should be sent to the Institute Director, currently Ram Ramamoorthy. More information can be found at Information for Staff and Students | InfWeb (ed.ac.uk) |
| IANC | Decisions are made on a case-by-case basis. Students should approach their supervisor about possible funds who will relay the request to the institute Director, currently Douglas Armstrong. Douglas will consult with Barry, the portfolio manager, about available funds and then give an approved amount if funds are available. |
| ILCC | The ILCC procedure can be found at ILCC Travel Support Policy | InfWeb (ed.ac.uk). It is up to supervisors to make the request which, in practice, usually goes to Alex Lascarides as Institute Director. |
