Title:

Proter: A discrete event simulator for prioritized processes

Abstract:

Over the past 4 years we have developed Proter, a discrete-event simulator for prioritized processes. What started as a simple simulator for models in our WorkflowFM framework has evolved into a fully-fledged stand-alone simulation engine comparable to commercial tools. It supports ad-hoc scheduling and probabilistic tasks, puts emphasis in prioritization and can support different workflow languages. Recent student contributions have led to new features such as lookahead scheduling, more expressive resources, and a web API. I will give an overview of the system, how we use it in research and applications, and how it compares to the state-of-the-art.
