Participate in our research

We are always looking for volunteers to take part in our experiments.

Informatics Forum

Our research in neuroprosthetics requires a steady stream of volunteers willing to help by acting as a participant or co-researcher.

We are very interested in hearing from people with upper-limb difference (acquired amputation or congenital difference) as well as people with other neuromotor conditions, e.g. stroke, that affect walking or balance.

All experimental protocols have been approved by an independent Ethical Review Committee. We are very flexible in terms of time and we can cover UK travel and accommodation expenses.

Mild participation - at our laboratories

Experiments vary in duration, typically, from 1 to 3 hours and may involve a range of non-invasive techniques such as recording muscle signals, peripheral nerve stimulation, the performance of instrumented tasks and control of advanced prosthetic hands. Most subjects find participating in experiments fun and do come back!

Spicy participation - at your home environment

We are moving toward long-term studies that measure the real-life benefits of using advanced prosthetics. We are therefore looking for people who would be able to collaborate with us on a long-term basis, e.g. six months. If you are interested in designing these bespoke trials with us for yourself, please drop us a line!
