Draft Minutes of Previous Meeting  - 1st May 2019 (Extraordinary BoS 2)

Matters Arising

16102019_BoS Item 1) New Programme Title - MSc in Business Informatics - Advanced Technology for Financial Computing - Tiejun Ma

Changes to be considered are in three aspects:

(i) the name from MSc in Business Informatics-Advanced Technology for Financial Computing, to a shortened name  MSc in Advanced Technology for Financial Computing. This is to reflect to various comments according to the meetings we have within Informatics and Business School;

(ii) we tight up the recruitment criteria and focus on Computer Science and Engineering students, so that we do not overlap with the Business School much (as they expressed such concerns);

(iii) We updated the programme curriculum  with minimum  30 credits from the Business School. This is the requirement from last BoS meeting to get the programme approved.

16102019_BoS Item 2) New Course Proposal - Foundations of Natural Language Processing  - Alex Lascarides & Sharon Goldwater

This proposed course implements a part of  the curriculum review of our UGT teaching.  As set out in that review, it replaces FNLP (currently 10 points) and the NLP parts of Inf2A (which ceases to exist from 2019/20) with a 20 point course entitled FNLP.

16102019_BoS Item 3) New Course Proposal - Informatics Project Proposal [Distance] - Bob Fisher

Proposal for a new level 11 Postgraduate Course.

Items 4,5 and 6 are to be considered together along with the UG Plan reminder document that explains the context for these three new course proposals

16102019_BoS Item 4) New Course Proposal - Discrete Mathematics & Probability - Heather Yorston and Sharon Goldwater

This course represents an update on DMMR based on recent and planned curricular changes. It is planned to improve the accessibility of this course to students of a wider mathematical ability than the current DMMR

16102019_BoS Item 5) New Course Proposal - Foundations of Data Science - Sharon Goldwater, Heather Yorston & Kobi Gal

Initial proposal for Foundations of Data Science - FDS

16102019_BoS Item 6) New Course Proposal - Software Engineering and Professional Practice - Cristina Alexandru

Initial proposal for Software Engineering and Professional Practice - SEPP
