As a member of the Database Group, I am currently a second-year PhD student in LFCS, School of Informatics. Supervised by Prof. Wenfei Fan and Prof. Leonid Libkin, I am working on a number of projects, mainly focusing on graph data management and data quality. I am especially interested in handling graph database challenges by jointly considering fundamental graph algorithms and machine learning.

Why LFCS?

I really enjoy my stay in LFCS mainly in the following three aspects.

Firstly, the strong database research group and their great work, especially the contributions to graph data management, are of my great interest. The opportunity to work with Prof. Wenfei Fan and study graph related problems attracts me the most.

Secondly, there are numerous seminars and talks to attend, where you can share your ideas and thoughts with other enthusiastic researchers. For example, I really enjoy the LFCS seminars organized by research staffs every fortnight and PhD talks that establishes a platform for PhD students to better learn about each other's work. During these LFCS academic group activities, I can always feel people's passion of contributing new knowledge to the world.

Thirdly, the support team in Informatics is efficient and helpful. They can always immediately answer your questions and solve the problems, ranging from financial supports to a broken printer for repairing. I will definitely recommend LFCS for someone thinking of doing research in fundamental computer science and algorithms. Surrounded by experts with profound knowledge and other friendly PhD students, a novice will obtain professional training and become a qualified researcher.

Advice for PhD applicants

I would suggest applicants to first figure out your true interest and then search for the person who shares similar interests. Only in this way can you truly enjoy your PhD research journey. Last but not least, just bring your passion for research and meet the people in LFCS!
