Linked Data Notifications is a W3C Candidate Recommendation

Amy Guy is the UoE Informatics representative in the W3C Social Web Working Group

As part of the group, I co-edit a specification for decentralised notifications using Linked Data. Linked Data Notifications (LDN) is a protocol that describes how servers (receivers) can have messages pushed to them by applications (senders), as well as how other applications (consumers) may retrieve those messages for future use. Any resource can advertise a receiving endpoint (Inbox) for the messages. Messages are expressed in RDF, and can contain any data - https://www.w3.org/TR/ldn. The spec reached Candidate Recommendation in November, which means its on track to become a formal Web standard in the next couple of months. In order to complete the process we need to demonstrate the feasibility of the protocol with interoperable implementations. Anyone working on Linked Data based projects which need to, or may in future need to, integrate with other independant systems are good fits for using this protocol to pass data around. People interested are encouraged to dive in, or reach out to us with questions, issues and other feedback on IRC (irc.w3.org #social) or Github (https://github.com/w3c/ldn).
